Visiting Buffalo Trace
The Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky was founded in 1792 and has been producing some of the world’s finest bourbon for centuries. The distillery was originally named the Old Fire Copper Distillery and was one of the first distilleries west of the Appalachian Mountains.
Throughout its long history, the distillery has changed hands numerous times and survived a number of disasters, including the Great Flood of 1937 and Prohibition. Today, the distillery is owned by Sazerac and produces a range of bourbon and rye whiskeys, including the iconic Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon whiskey.
The distillery is home to a number of historic buildings and landmarks, including the Old Taylor House, where former distillery owner Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr. lived, and the iconic white buffalo, which has been the distillery’s mascot for over a century.
Today, the Buffalo Trace Distillery is a National Historic Landmark and a popular destination for whiskey lovers from all over the world.
